Are Resilience and Perseverance the Same?

There has been a bit of buzz around resilience and perseverance, especially in how they are used. Although been used interchangeably, they are not literarily and necessarily the same. The no-harm usage can be attributed to the goal since they both charged towards a single objective, which is building a resilient mindset to becoming a successful women entrepreneur.
Simply put, resilience is “bouncing back,” perseverance is “pushing through and forward.”

In order words, resilience means “standing up again every time you are knocked out,” while perseverance means “employing a no giving up approach,” no matter how topsy-turvy things may get.

This definition from Wikipedia even explains clearer; resilience is the mental ability to recover quickly from depression, illness, or misfortune, while perseverance is the ability to continue in the course of action without regard to discouragement, opposition, and previous failure. Then resilience is that trait that teaches you how to deal positively with failure and come out victorious, while perseverance is the ability to adapt to whatever life toss at you.

However, we try to distinguish these two; they both co-exist dependently as a requisite for developing goal-oriented mindsets, the absence of which thwart all emotional and personal growth upkeep to be a successful entrepreneur. Women who lack these are generally characterized by shying away from challenges, being easily distracted and disheartened when unfavorable things come their way. Tips to Build Resilient Mindsets

  • Belief in Yourself:

One part and the first part of resilience mindsets is not limiting yourself. When you have a myopic thought with a fixed mindset that limits your ability, you are more likely to quit when things get tough. To overcome this, you need to change and believe in your abilities or believe that you learn how to overcome the situation. If you think differently about a problem, you are more likely to change your outcome.

The science of human psychology has proven that building resilience starts from having self-confidence and optimism out of all circumstances, even when all odds seem stacked against you. So, instead of seeing roadblocks and reasons to give up, you will see opportunities and why you should keep going.

  • Reframing Adversity:

The first impression you make about an unfavorable situation can make the crisis last longer than expected, even if it doesn’t break you. Reframing adversity demands that you look at a difficult situation in a way that minimizes it and puts you in charge. This is a cognitive process that gives us a favorable perception of an unfavorable situation and takes the stress out of our way. As Stephen Covey discusses in his book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: “if we want to change a situation, we first need to change ourselves and to change ourselves effectively, we first have to change our perceptions.”

In essence, you need to be careful of how you perceive things; rather than seeing adversity as an insurmountable problem, attempt reframing it as a new challenge you are ready to overcome.

  • Take Decisive Action:

If you change nothing, nothing will change. Do not put yourself at the mercy of events beyond your control and become paralyzed when crisis struck. You can develop resilience by taking some small first steps, so rather than waiting for someone to come in and save the day, think of and start doing things that will keep you in control of any situation.

You can’t wish away your problem, so it’s high time you started thinking about how to pull yourself out of any disaster by harnessing the force of your determination and empowering yourself.

  • Acknowledge Setbacks:

Setbacks serve their purpose, and you must be able to acknowledge them. However, while you do that, you cannot dwell on it. It would be best if you used them as stepping stones to spring forward. In times of setbacks, the flipside to most women’s mindset is the feeling that everything is rigged against them, which’s normal but wrong.

To conquer the entrepreneurship world, you have to make peace with the fact that obstacles are inevitable, and the sooner you do that, the better. You must be able to dictate what happens after the obstacle.

  • Build A Supportive Network:

To become a successful entrepreneur, you need to surround yourself with people who trust and believe in your dream. Family, friends, and relatives can encourage you to keep you going when you have all reasons to stop. The motivation that you aren’t alone, and the thought that you have people to lean on is enough to boost your morale.
